About US

Eyes Open is a conscious creative studio with a focus on strategic communications, campaigns and web design.

We operate as a team of two with a network of artists and creatives, builders and developers, writers and strategists.

Over recent years, we’ve had the privilege of building ~75 websites for a range of entrepreneurs, conscious businesses, public speakers and activists. We take a full-spectrum approach, moving from concept to brand identity to completed site.

For us, a website is a window into a world, and in purpose-driven work it often reflects a future-facing vision. We treat every project as the opportunity to discover and build that world, together.

When we’re not building websites we’re playing music, growing vegetables and hanging out in nature, and making art that can connect us all more deeply around the human experience.

Hi, I’m Amy — artist and activist working at the intersection of creative communications, technology and social change. I cofounded design studio Eyes Open in 2015 to lend my working experience in digital communications, strategy and design to purpose-driven individuals and organizations.

I also cofounded and codirect Plan C, a nonprofit campaign designed to transform abortion access in the US by sharing information on abortion pills by mail, now a reality in all states. I was recently named in Fast Company’s 2023 Most Creative People in Business, and am also an advisor for gen-z emergency contraception brand Julie and for new abortion chatbot Charley. During the pandemic, I was an inaugural member of the Buckminster Fuller Institute’s inaugural Design Science Studio and helped the Jane Club transition from a physical space to an online community. Before this, I spent 20+ years navigating complex social issues: from human trafficking to economic injustice to gender equity, which led to reproductive health and access as my current focus. I hold BAs in English & Music from UC Berkeley and an MA in nonprofit management at NYU, and those two decades led me through aiding elder jazz musicians in crisis, building a grassroots movement led by survivors of human trafficking and sex slavery, developing empathy-driven fundraising technology to scale the personal ask, and co-founding impact travel company Journey: a public benefit corporation creating conscious travel experiences designed to transform both the travelers and the communities visited. In two years that social enterprise took more than 600 Journeyers to build 150 homes, refurbish schools, skate parks and economic empowerment programs, and more - on a trip that ended with cultural immersion, impact integration, and community.

When I sunsetted Journey in 2018 with lessons learned, the web design studio grew: by referral and via values-led organizations and individuals. And as the U.S. spiraled into reproductive health crisis, Plan C emerged as a new concept and critical resource: a “Plan C” for abortion access. Under my co-leadership Plan C has grown to an annual audience of millions of website visitors, press reach in the tens of billions, and nationwide partnerships in research, creative and tech.

I am also an artist, a futurist and a lifelong musician. I embrace art that allows me to sit in the question of what matters and where we’re headed. In 2010 I co-created the 7 Train Sessions: a guerilla music series that hosted 100+ acts over four years in living rooms, rooftops and on subway trains. I write and perform about the end of the world in post-apocalyptic concept space folk band Formerly Alien: an immersive space opera that takes place on a ship after earth has been destroyed. I also write solo under artist name Amy Batara. (You can also find Andy’s solo music here).

I can’t wait to meet you!
